None of us are really prepared for the inevitable but there are resources available to help us plan and make it easier on our loved ones/families. Most of us have set up wills, trusts, living wills, power of attorney, and maybe even bought a lot in a cemetery but there is much more and the links below will give you some checklists to go through or at least your family can have in case they are needed. I have set up or am setting up everything so it will be easier. I am also looking at pre-paying for the funeral, etc so the family basically just makes a call and the ball begins to roll for them. I’m planning to write my own obituary and several other things surrounding my eventual death.

I know all of this sounds a little morbid but I have always been a planner and try very hard to help my family every chance I get. I was just built that way. All of this may seem to be a big task but ask yourself if your family knows your true wishes or if you want all of this responsibility placed on loved ones as they are grieving your death. I have been working/changing mine for a couple years now and just now realized I have a lot lined up but do not have a healthcare or financial power of attorney so I’m still learning. There’s a lot of help for you on the two checklists. While you are at it, it might be a good idea to do one for your spouse or other loved one.
